Full Version: Learning to Program in RPL

I recently purchased an HP 48GX. I have downloaded several Libraries of Engineering programs from the Web and found them very useful. I am interested in writing some of my own programs in RPL. The only calculator programming experience I have is with HP11C, 32SII and with Elektronica MK 61 calculators which basically use just "keystroke" programs. I have been away from computer programming for a long time, but at one time was very proficient in FORTRAN, BASIC and PASCAL languages.

I am looking for a good text book or manual which gives more instruction in programming in RPL Language than is offered by the HP 48GX Owners' Manual. Does anyone out there know of such a book; and just as importantly where I can obtain a copy? Thank you.

Wayne.

Hello,

there are some programming tutorials, and much more documentation for the HP-48 on www.hpcalc.org .

Regards,

Raymond

Hi, Wayne;

congrats for your acquisition. I have two HP48G+ and an HP48SX and I use them as often as I need to.

I'd follow Raymond's suggestions: many good, downloadable RPL tutorials exist. Also, as a brief introduction to RPL, you could read this. There are four commented listings at the end of the page that will give you a glympse of what an RPL program is.

And I found the HP48G Advanced Users Reference Manual as a good source of programming examples and explanations. User RPL only. Also, Willian C. Wickes' HP48 Insights (vol. II) goes deep inside RPL programming structure. As you know PASCAL, you'll not feel tease with structured language style. And RPL programming demands structured language reasoning.

Cheers. And success.

Thank you both.

I just downloaded a bunch of stuff from hpcalc.org which looks like it will provide a great start. I have a lot of reading to do now.

I am having difficulty locating an Advanced User's Manual. HP, of course, no longer sells them.

If anyone out there has an extra they want to part with I would love to buy one.

Thanks again.

Wayne.

Hi,

You can try at http://www.calcpro.com

Thank you. I just ordered one from calcpro.com; and the price was very reasonable. If they had the Programmers Reference Manual I would have ordered one of those also.
