For the original equipment NiCad cells, the manual says eight hours from complete discharge to full charge, but you won't damage the cells if you let them charge longer than that. If your cells have greater capacity (in milliamp hours) than the originals, then you would want to give them more than eight hours. If you have NiCad cells, let them discharge completely every once in a while.
