Have a nice and fully functioning HP-9114B, but the problem seems to be the battery pack. I cannot locate the little fuser inside, it should be gone and for that there isn't output voltage to the unit. Does anyone know where is located on the circuit? I would short-circuit or replace it. Thanks!

A friend of mine had the same problem with the HP-IL Thinkjet 15 years ago. The fuse was in the cable in the accu pack (or between the accu packs contacts and the units PCB). The cable get a little thicker there somehow. To check it, open up the accu pack and measure voltage between the packs terminal (The large PANASONIC block). There was a replacement for the battery, but I'd bet the thermal fuse is gone and you need a new wire from the battery block to the packs terminals.

Thanks Reinahrd, I checked the battery cave but I have an electronic board with various IC's transistors etc. I suspect that the fuser could be like a diode or resistor.

The fuse is on that little electronic board, it looks like a resistor(!). It's called a "pica-fuse," as I recall, and is rated at 3 amps. Look for the thickest trace on the pc board, and you'll see it head to one of the resistor-like components. I think it is at the end of the row of 3 or 4 resistor-like components. If you check it with an ohm-meter, you will see that it is open. I've replaced these with easily-available (here, anyway) pica-fuses, and also once with a standard 3-amp fuse with wires soldered onto the ends... inelegant but effective. If you can't find it, I'll open up one of mine and double-check the location.

Good Luck,

Dan
