Can anyone explain the strange blue outline around the HP-15C in this auction?

Is it possible the picture is a composite?

It looks like a superimposed image to me.

Sure. He took the HP museum picture and disguised it by moving a couple segments and scaling it down.

But the source is still obvious. Just look at the identical lighting on the background. Makes you wonder just how bad the one he's selling is if he thought the defects would be too obvious at that size.

You mean 15.15 isn't what comes up every time you turn it on?

No, the only "15" that it shows is a centered one when you finish the keyboard test.
This "15.15" is some fancy thing the user typed... It doesn't show anything different on power-on than the number already on the X register.

I really think that is a (bad quality!) make up, I cannot imagine the real condition of the item... If it has an item, anyway!

Nelson

I meant the above as a joke, because it is so obviously the same picture as the one on the MoHPC site.

Sorry, I'm used to see questions like this for real... ;-)

It could just be sitting on a blue poly bag.

The exactly match the HP Museum borders. Widest on Left, 2nd on top, 3rd on bottom and narrowest on right. Also, the right border is about 1/3 of the left border on both.

What are the odds of these border spacings coincidently matching the HP Museum site. I bet if you look around, you'll find another recent auction that has the same manual and cover.

Finally, look at the darker shadow at the top. Same in both photos. Same highlight on front two corners.

I think it's an HP Photo cut and pasted into another image.

Look at these two. Use the same photos. Be careful from whom you buy.
