my lcd is in really bad bad shape. can i replace this with any other lcd screen? like a 10b or 20s?

Try the 17BII

thx....is there any cheaper calc I could use lol...the hp42 i have is not the greatest condition, so I'm not looking for mint...

Randy Sloyer answered this pretty completely in: this post -- no, you need another LCD from an HP-27s, or an HP-17B or BII. (... or, of course, another HP-42s.)

Look under "Repairs and Batteries" for my "Pioneer Repairs" article, where you'll find limited coverage of how to swap out the LCD. Post any additional questions here.

Good luck!

Or you could have a pro fix it.
