Last week I wrote about the form letter I got from HP regarding the future of calcuators there. The next day I got a survey request (has anyone else gotten these, from a company called tnsofres.com) from them, regarding my recent Customer Service venture, and I let them have it, letting them know I wasn't satisfied with their blatently incorrect statements and their vague comments in the form letter.

Today, I got the following:

Hello,

It is important to us that we answer your question. If you need
further assistance, please reply to this message, we will be
happy to
help you.

Sincerely,

Apparently my poor showing on the survey got someone's attention, since HP is now soliciting information from me.

Of course, my reply asked for more detail about the "upcoming" RPN calculator, will it be graphing or not, programmable or not, robust or like the HP-9x (i.e., not,) as well as some clearer information about tentative release dates.

We'll see. It's a bit comforting to have HP ask its consumers for advice. Then again, maybe it's just another ride on the merry-go-round.

The part quoted below is also a form letter from HP. The reason I know is because I saw it twice, once from Amanda, and once from some other guy. I asked a similar question of them, and got no useful information.

If you're interested, search the forum for my name in the past couple weeks, and you will see the thread I started to try to keep everyone informed on the new HP calculator.

HP form response:

"Hello,

Sincerely, XXXX HP Customer blah blah blah

Here's the result of my latest inquiry - According to her, the scientific will not be graphing, and it _should_ be from a different manufacturer than the HP-30 & HP-9 series.

Of course, it'd be nice if the website (http://www.hp.com/support/calculators) actually worked.
Letter attached:

Hello,

Here in technical support, all we know is that there will be at
least
one new finance, one new RPN scientific, and one new graphing
calculator
out by the end of the year. We have not been given any release
dates,
nor any further info about the calculators.

I can say that the difference between the Scientific and the
graphing is
the scientific does not have graphing, therefore, the new RPN
scientific
would (hopefully) be RPN, non-graphing, shirt pocket size. I'm
sure
they will continue to create new RPN calculators. In case you
haven't
heard, www.fixthatcalc.com repairs and refurbishes the pioneer
series,
including the 42S, 32S, 32SII, 17BII, etc.

As for the body or keyboard, yet again, we have no idea. I can
say I
believe (nothing official at all) that we have new designers so
maybe
they will be very different from both styles.

I hope what little information we can offer is helpful, and keep
an eye
out at www.hp.com/support/calculators for new models.

It is important to us that we answer your question. If you need
further assistance, please reply to this message, we will be
happy to
help you.

Sincerely,
Amanda
