Hi. I've seen lots of specific programming challenges here, but I thought this would also be fun....

Of course, to share my pride in my HP hobby, I'm thinking of getting a personalized car license plate, here in Nebraska, USA.

I'm allowed 8 characters, 7 alpha-numeric and one space.

My ideas so far:

RPN PGMR

HP RPN

RPN LVR (lover)

I thought that just "RPN" would be confused for someone's initials. Any other suggestions?

1) HP FREAK

2) RPN CALC

3) EBAY SUX

4) XEQ RPN

5) GTO RPN

1) MORE RPN

2) I-DO RPN

3) RPN NOW

4) RPN DOES

5) HP HACKS

6) HP SHRNK (that's for you only, Doc!)

1. NOTI (can be construed with multiple meanings)

2. NOT TI

3. VIN HP

4. NO CARLY

5. ENTER

6. HP 4EVER

1) ENTGTEQ

2) HALF NUT

3) VOYAGER

4) PIONEER

5) WUD STCK

6) LAST X

7) RCL PLUS

8) ROLL DN

9) XYZT

10) SWAP XY

Collecting is quirky -- displaying is eccentric -- but a calculatorized plate is over the top! ;^)

Forgot a good one -

NO EQUAL

GREAT!!!

I don't know why, but I really like, "LAST X". Very "inside" expression! "RPN CALC" is great also! I like them all!

I did think of:

RPN RULZ

RPN 4EVR

RPN 4ME

etc. "NO EQUAL" is TOO good.... really TOO "inside"

Great fun.

This is tough.... which to choose? I even do have the perfect plate for a psychiatrist. (A colleague uses PSYCHE)

How about: " HMMM ". Great, huh?!

I've thought about getting this one, which would be meaningful for HP-41 synthetic programming fans:

EG0BEEP

(Too bad license plates are uppercase-only, because it really should be eG0BEEP to be authentic.)

Heh. Reminds me of the one I was told of a few days ago - a Volkswagen Beetle, with a plate that reads "FEATURE".

A buddy of mine is *convinced* the owner must work for Microsoft.

Best,

--- Les [http://www.lesbell.com.au]

They're all so good...

The more I think about it, the more I like Luiz's:

I DO RPN

WAIT! Another!

RTN2RPN

More of a request, I'd say..... I like it.

I want more!

Michael

My wife really likes that last one, too!

LAST X is my favorite so far. I like XYZT too, for some reason.

I think NO EQUAL is a little too obscure -- even a fellow HP fan might think you're talking about something else altogether.

Your DMV probably has rules against derogatory or obscene messages, so EBAY SUX is probably out.

For the psychiatrist, how about their favorite phrase: YRTMISUP.

When you do get your plates, make sure to post a picture!

I will!

I think I'll get the one I thought of last, though I'm sure I wouldn't have thought of it without seeing all the great suggestions. I like "RTN2RPN" as it encompasses so much: the love of HP calcs, the use of a key-programmable command that is still easily read by people who don't know this lingo (I've shown it to people, who could read it without confusion, even if they don't know what it means... some others have too many other meanings. "LAST X" could refer to too many other things, etc.), and best of all, the nostalgic aspect of my collecting. "Return to..." has that nice aspect of nostalgia.

I'll wait a bit longer, in case anyone else has some others. They are all so good, it's hard to choose....

I like RTN2RPN too, but maybe you can work something of your profession in along with HP calculators by using MEM. Some suggestions:

CLR MEM

RCLI MEM

RND MEM

CMPLXMEM (oops, too big)

I think what you really need is one of those 007 Aston Martin DB5 revolving license plates so you don't have to pick just one.

Nice idea, Katie!

Or, how 'bout a different Sports Car for each day of the week?

Or a color LCD license plate? Maybe one could mount a laptop on the bumper and run a slide show . . .

{8^)

I like that. My biggest problem daily without exception: I don't like kicking people out when "time is up" if there's still important things to talk about.

So, I almost always run late. It's a new version of the old Murphy's Law:

"The time needed is almost always more than the time allotted."

And, Murphy was an optimist.

Katie,

You wouldn't happen to have an extra Aston Martin DB5? I'll trade you an HP-67. Or even an HP-19C. I'll even throw in a box of TI's: I love the story of Tom Drewski using TI's as "packing material" for an HP calc!

"LAST X" could mean, "Last time", etc.

I think one of the most common complaints I hear is that people "can't remember" things well. (We're learning that stress increases cortisol, which is toxic to the hippocampus, which impairs short term memory in addition to lowering immunity, etc.)

How about: "MEM LOST"?

BTW,

They say that memory is the second thing to go. (I can't remember the first).

;]

Paul,

I've always wanted to mount a display in the back window of my car to display various messages.

But then my car would need to be bulletproof.

Michael

How about:
RPN 4EVR

John,

I did think of that and it's in one of my previous posts. Funny you mention it, though, as I've been considering it more.

Michael

Sorry, Mike - I looked through these quickly, but I didn't see it - I must have missed it. I was surprised that no one had thought of it. Now I know why -- THEY DID! :-)
