Full Version: Question about transfering programs to the HP Prime

Hi All,

I apologize for this question, which is most likely been discussed here a few times. I have not been reading every thread about the HP Prime.

My question is "How to I load an .hpprgm file into the Prime emulator and/or the HP Prime calculator itself using the Connectivity Kit?"

Thank you for being patient with me.

Namir

PS: I know how to load Prime programs that are pure text. That's easy!!!

I too am finding the usage of the connectivity kit most cumbersome.

Is there any documenatation?

Regards,

TomC

Namir, a way to find out for yourself:

  1. Create a program in the Contents tab of the Connectivity Kit
  2. Do a search on your hard drive for *.hppgrm
This should reveal the folder where the Connectivity Kit stores its files. CK's "Send to Class" option will distribute the file to all connected Primes and emulators. Manually copying files into the folder may require a restart of the application before the files show up.

The same operation should help to find the folder for the emulator files, too.

Using the text files work best for me Namir.

I think Namir's question pertains to downloaded *.hpprgm non-text files. Basically, the procedure I use is to copy the *.hpprgm file into the C:\users\<your name>\appdata\roaming\hp_prime folder, and turn the Prime Emulator Off and On. The program will now appear in the program list on the Emulator, after which it can be directly sent to any connected physical Prime. There is no need to use the CK for any of this.

Oh, one more thing. Do *not* have the CK running when you do this; otherwise the direct connection between the Prime and the Emulator will *not* be established.

There's a User Guide pdf file located in the HP Prime Virtual Calculator folder on your pc hard drive.

Using text works well for me too. However, when other folks post Prime programs in .hpprgm format, I would like to install THESE programs on the emulator and/or HP Prime.

Mic and Michael,

Thank you gents for your suggestions. By combining both of your advices, I was able to easily do the following:

1) Copy the ASTEROID programs to the nested subfolder in my user's Appdata folder.

2) Find the ASTEROID program in the emulator.

3) Create a new ASTEROID program on the HP-Prime.

4) Copy/paste the source code from the emulator to the HP Prime.

5) Refresh the contents of the HP Prime.

6) Find and run the ASTEROID program in the HP Prime.

Mission accomplished!!!!

Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!

There is actually no need to do any of this create/copy/paste stuff with the connectivity kit. Once you have the desired program(s) stored on your pc in the correct folder, simply turn on your Emulator and connect your Prime to the pc via USB. The programs(s) will appear in the Program Catalog on your Emulator. Highlight each of them and press the Send soft key on the bottom of the touchscreen. This will transfer the program(s) directly to your Prime. Just make sure the connectivity kit is not running while you are doing this. You can always use the connectivity kit to edit these programs or print them.

Good point! That works too and it is simpler!!
