I just bought a couple of these: HP 50G and there are 2 left.

Not a bad price at all for a boxed/new :) , but I'm all HP50'ed up with more than 2 secondhanders found on ebay recently.

Last one left now

Well mine arrived today (yes I crumbled !)

It is factory sealed and has an amazon stock label on it , so I can only presume Amazon dumped their overstock at cost to one of their dumpee's
Checking the address it came from turns out to be a private dwelling, but it clearly has an amazon label on it.
I wonder whether they thought they'd get stuck with dead stock now the prime is up and running?
(Maybe they think the prime is the replacement?, maybe it is the replacement?)

The one thing I'm not sure of is does the product receive one of those labels if amazon are simply doing the fulfillment of orders (ie it was one of amazon's vendor's?)
Sorry I can't help doing some research when I see a bargain and start wondering how they got hold of it.

I also checked out the ebayer's sales, turned out the initial couple of units were £57.99, then he adjusted the price down to £45.

No. It this case, Amazon is just acting as a middleman and taking a cut of the action, just like eBay does.

I realise they take a cut, I was wondering whether the amazon stock label was also put on stuff that they just handle (and take a cut of)
or whether that label definitely marks it out as amazon's own stock .

They never handle items sold by others.

They do!, they will take over the logistics of shipping them from amazon's warehouse. :)
You ship the product to Amazon and they handle the fulfillment (for a fee of course)

I wasn't aware of that service. Everything I've ever bought from other vendors through the Amazon system have always been shipped directly from the vendor's address.

Yes, and that is where I decided to buy and posted it here afterwards.
My units have arrived at a friends place (shipping was to the UK only) the next day. But I'll have to wait until February when I visit him....
