Full Version: Does RPN entry mode cause the Prime keyboard to lock up ?

Previously, while trying to use the Spreadsheet App with the calculator set for RPN entry, the keyboard locked up and I had to do a hard reset with the rear button to recover control of the calculator. Today, the calculator was simply sitting turned on and attached to the computer with the USB cable, when after some time doing nothing the keyboard again locked up and required a hard reset. I have yet to experience this problem with the calculator set for algebraic entry. Has anyone else experienced this strange behaviour with RPN entry mode ?

Yes,

RPN and Spreadsheet are not the best friends. I've had lockups and hard crashes when in RPN. The current instabilities with RPN made me switch to algebraic, not too comfortable.

It also causes problems in the emulator.

Kind regards, Eelco

I have not observed the keyboard ever stop responding like you report.

I had the same problem 2 times today.

the keyboard doesn't react to any keypress.

I've pretty much given up on RPN with this machine. Not only can't it do very much, but it seems fraught with landmines as well. If I need to do a simple manual calculation in RPN I'll just fire up the old 50g or 33s.

Well I guess this means I can rule out faulty hardware as the cause.

Did you also have a usb plugged in?

TW

I have reported this problem to HP support. Apparently they were
unaware of this issue.

Thanks! Did you also have a USB cable plugged in? Or had it plugged in sometime earlier?

I ask because that one specific detail given in the original post seems like it might be important.

TW

Dear Tim,

YES it happened in my case when USB cable was plugged.

Regards,

Nacho

FWIW, my original keyboard lockup occurred while the calculator was NOT connected to the computer via USB.

Had it been connected recently though? Thanks.

Yes. However, it has also been connected many times via USB for long periods while set to algebraic entry mode, and the keyboard has never locked up. If it does, I'll let you know.

I did not have the USB cable connected and it had not been connected
before I experienced this problem.

I received a reply from HP saying that this was a know issue and it
will be corrected in the next update TBD.

Well, I finally got it to lock up and lose keyboard control while connected to the USB port and set to algebraic entry mode, so maybe there's more to this than RPN problems. I was inside a spreadsheet when this occurred. Also, earlier today when I first started the PC with the Prime connected, then started the emulator, the emulator crashed and then the connectivity kit crashed when I started it. I turned off the Prime, then restarted the connectivity kit, emulator and Prime in that order and all was fine. Also, just now the Prime shut itself off, even though it was still connected to the USB, whereas it normally remains ON indefinitely.
