Full Version: HP 15C LE On/X ?

I am now an owner of two 15 C and a 15C LE that arriwed to me in Sweden from US today.

Sorry to bother, but I tried the On/X (and On/+) self tests but I almost instantly got Error 9. Is this acceptable? On the other hand I saw the errata about the g/Enter + On tests and the tiny machine passed all three.

What, if anything, am I missing?

Cheers,
Matti, Sweden

Hi.

You are correct, these former tests no longer work with the HP15CLE. I have one working perfectly fine and the behavior is the same.

Congratulations on your new calculator!

Cheers.

Thanks Luiz,

Rest assured that I will spend quite a lot of time with the 15C LE now that it has the speed that I lacked. Indeed will I take down the Advanced functions handbook and see the speed-improvements - live.

Oh, what a joy it is to be a nerd.

Hi, Matti.

That makes, ahn, "two" (not only...) of us all... I have two HP15C myself and one 15CLE, we match in these numbers. And I'm helplessly addicted...

Enjoy!

No, that is not correct. The test works, but times out rather quickly. If you are fast, you can go through all the keys and pass the test.

I have tested this on an original 15c and the test times out after a few minutes as well.

You can still call this a bug though, as the test should have been changed to suit the much faster 15C LE.

Hi, Harald.

Sorry, I did not get it. The ON/× (or the ON/+ and pressing a key) return all segments of the LCD lit when the calculator is OK, or [Error 9] when it is faulty. Shouldn't they return the 'all segments lit' then right after pressing the ON/× keys?

Now it is my turn to ask if I am missing something. Or would you be referring to the ON/÷ test?

Cheers.

Hej Matti,

Here is the self-test procedure for the 15C LE:

With the calculator OFF,

Press and hold 'g' and 'ENTER'; press 'ON'

Release 'ON'; release 'g' and 'ENTER'

The screen will display '1.L 2.C 3.H'

Press 1 to perform the LCD test

Press 2 to display the Copyright/Checksum message

Press 3 to perform the keyboard test

Press ON to exit the self-test.

Hi Luiz,

oh, sorry. Of course you are right. I was indeed referring to the ON/÷ test. Don't know why I though that was the one we were talking about....
Sorry for the confusion!

That's perfectly fine! We are all willing to help, even helping each other. The most important is: in the end, we're all getting to a consensus.

Cheers!

Just make sure that you don't try to use PSE, nor should you expect any low battery warning before the 15C-LE quits and resets all memory after relatively short battery life. Also, if you do try the old 15C self-tests, usually program memory will be corrupted. These are three of the most serious 15C-LE bugs that apparently will never be fixed.

I have two 15C and two 15C-LE units. I used one of the 15C units for 11 years. I have yet to recognize any real value to the 125 times speed-up of the the 15C-LE. Few attempt problems on the 15C that would only be considered, if only it were 125 times faster. :-)

I've gone back to using my 1985 HP-15C (rather than the 15C-LE novelty item) when I'm keeping my grossly more capable HP-42S units out of harm's way.

Hej Peter,

Yes, there seems to be some changes in the self-tests for the 15C LE. Thank you (all!) for straightening things up.

I did the complex calculation in the AFH/15C pages 086-089, and it took just 5 s to be compared to the 15C:s 9 min (540 s-ish). Isn´t things just fun when they're fun... ;-)
