I wouldn't outright dismiss creating a cosmetically indistinguishable replica as extremely hard. There will certainly be some preparation involved. But I think this might be a good starting point to create accurate artwork for cnc engraving.

Note there is substantial variation in the appearance of even HP manufactured logos. The above 16c has a highly reflective surface while the 15c finish has a brushed texture.

If anyone has interest in the original jpegs, feel free to PM me. Flikr insists on squashing the resolution of uploads although these seem to be of marginally usable resolution.
