I am just curious. How many of you out there still have a Curta calculator that actually works?

I have keept mine that dates back to the early 70s, just before the HP 35 came out and changed the world. Or at least that is how it felt at the time.

Every now and then I take out the Curta and check to see that it does still operate.

They are still a remarkable piece of engineering.

I have both Type I and II and they are both working flawlessly. This is by far the most sophisticated mechanical piece of gadgetry I have ever held in my hands and (successfully) disassembled and put back together.

My Curta I works perfectly. If they aren't damaged og handled roughly, they ought to 'last forever'. (Like a good slide rule :-)

I several Model I and Model II Curtas which still are amazingly smooth and silent running. No one to whom I show them believes they are as old as they are. They still look as if they have just been unpacked for the first time (pristine pieces and both metal and plastic cases, too) and they feel as if they have just been lubricated. Truly amazing pieces of engineering and manufacture.

I have a pristine Model 1 my wife got me for my birthday a few years ago. It was a little rocky when I received it but I had it professionally overhauled and it's perfect now.

I'd like a Model II. Maybe Stuart will sell me one of his.
