Full Version: New MLDL2000 production run?

I am currently investigating the possibilities to do a new production run for the MLDL2000. I have asked a new quote from my PCB assembly house, and the cost depends very much on the quantity. Those who are interested in getting an MLDL2000 (and have not indicated that to me yet), should let me know, so I can get a realistic idea of the required quantity.

New users will have to be aware of the following:

- Only a few cardreader housings are left, and these will be assigned to those who are on the waiting list for the longest time

- If you cannot obtain one of the cardreader housings, you may have to sacrifice your own card reader or get one at eBay

- I am looking for an alternative solution to put the MLDL2000 in a different box thats fits under the HP41

- Assembly of the MLDL2000 is very time consuming, I will therefore do assembly only for the remaing cardreader shells. For those who will do their own assembly I will offer a kit of parts (connectors etc)

- I expect that the price of the MLDL2000 kit will not change, but I need enough interest to keep the current price

It is NOT certain if there will be more production, this is just a survey. You are not committing to anything yet.

The MLDL2000 allows you to use almost all available ROM images in your HP41 and you may develop your own ROMs. HEPAX is one of the ROMS that will work. The images can be downloaded from a PC over a USB connection. More information is available at my website. Please let me know if you are seriously interested in getting on the waiting list or when you have any further questions

Meindert

Interested.

Hi, Meindert;

believe it or not, I am interested. Seriously interested.

Yeap, you and many others know that I already have two MLDL2000 units, and everybody knows that it is not 'that' hard to find an HP41C/CV/CX for sale somewhere, but if we are talking about the MLDL2000... the only ones you produce will be the only ones available, though.

I know that if, for some reason, I need a spare, I'll have one that's spare for two. And all of the three units may be left working as they are.

Please, my name in the list!

Cheers.

Luiz (a completely happy MLDL2000 user in Brazil...)

Hello Meindert, Please add me to the list. Thanks.

Just some clarifications:

- Do not try to bribe me for cardreader shells ;) There are really only a few left and these are commited to some who are already on the waiting list.

- I appreciate you feedback on the forum, but I need your email address to keep you personally up to date with the status of the new production run. Please send me an email if you are interested.

- I forgot to mention that a module connector will be required as well. This may be taken from your old cardreader or an old module that you might have.

Also I am working on spectacular extensions to the MLDL2000 with some of my HP41 friends. More news to follow ....

Meindert

Hello Meindert,

I am interested. Could you please add me to your list?

Regarding the need for a cardreader shell, connector, and/or an alternative housing. 82143A printers are generally easily available and fairly inexpensive. I presume the connector and cable from an 82143A would work for the MLDL2000, correct? The printer housing itself could also be used, although it would seem to be much larger than required if everything fits in a cardreader shell. Still, it would then look like “authentic” 41C hardware.

Apart from the fact that the printer housing is way too large, something remotely portable would be a plus. Also the cable to the printer might be somewhat long. HP41 signals are not really very fast, but I would keep the connections as short as possible.

Meindert

Hi Meindert, guys;

just to remind that the 82143A connector is also an interface, it is active and contains, at least, the XROM contents. I remember having only the interface plus cable connected to the HP41 and the calculator recognized it as if a printer were attached.

If you all allow me: a single HP41C memory module might be handy, plus a flat cable; then the whole circuits might be built, as Meindert said so, in a flat box that fit under the HP41.

Cheers.
